art linkletter and SDSU President Steven Weber

Art Linkletter and SDSU President Stephen L. Weber at the Friends of the SDSU Library dinner, March 24, 2006

The SDSU Library lost another friend today. Art Linkletter, a 1934 alumnus of SDSU, died today at age 97. He was best known for hosting two of the longest running shows in broadcast history: House Party and People Are Funny. But at SDSU, he was known as a friend.

Linkletter made frequent trips to campus, speaking at events and promoting his alma mater. In 2006, he was the guest speaker at the SDSU Friends of the Library dinner, celebrating the recent donation of his archives to the library and an exhibit featuring items from The Linkletter Collection. His presence on campus will be missed, but his connection to SDSU remains through his generous contribution of materials to the library.
